Settings — Payments

Feature Overview

Payments settings are the control center for how your restaurant accepts, processes, and manages money. From connecting your credit card processor to configuring which payment methods appear at checkout, every financial flow through the POS and online ordering runs through the rules you set here. Getting these settings right ensures seamless transactions for guests and accurate payment reporting for your team.

How It Affects the System

  • The Payment Processor configuration connects your restaurant to your credit card processing provider (such as NMI or Card Connect). The processor selected here handles all card authorizations, captures, and voids. Incorrect settings will cause card transactions to fail.
  • Payment Devices become visible once a card payment method is active. This section lists the physical card readers (terminals) registered to your restaurant. Devices must be registered here to accept payments.
  • Card Payments settings control how credit and debit card transactions behave — including enabling or disabling specific card types and any card-specific checkout behavior.
  • A Service Fee (if configured for your account) is displayed at the top of the page. This is a percentage added to credit/debit card transactions. When the fee is set to 0%, no service fee is shown on either the online ordering payment page or the POS payment screen. To change or remove your service fee, contact Katalyst support.
  • The Katalyst Subscription block displays your current Katalyst subscription plan details.
  • Payment method availability on the POS is directly driven by which methods are active here. If a payment type is not configured, staff will not see it as an option at checkout.

Prerequisites / Requirements

  • Restaurant edit or view permissions are required.
  • A valid payment processing account (NMI, Card Connect, or other supported provider) must be set up before payment devices can be registered.

Common Troubleshooting / FAQs

Q: Credit card payments are failing at the POS. First, verify that your payment processor credentials are correctly entered in Settings > Payments. An incorrect API key or terminal ID will cause all card transactions to fail. Contact your payment processor's support line to confirm your credentials are active. Also verify that the payment device is registered and assigned to the correct POS station.

Q: A new card terminal is not working after I registered it. After registering a device in Settings > Payments, the POS application on that terminal may need to be restarted to establish the connection. Power cycle the terminal and reopen the Katalyst POS app. If the terminal still does not connect, confirm the terminal ID entered matches exactly what is shown on the physical device.
