Managing Menu Sections

Feature Overview

Menu Sections are the top-level categories that organize your menu — such as Appetizers, Entrees, Desserts, or Beverages. Within each section you define the individual items your guests can order. Keeping sections organized ensures your menu displays correctly on the POS, the diner app, and any online ordering interfaces.

Prerequisites / Requirements

• Your account must have Menu view or edit permissions.
• A Revenue Center must be active and selected.

Step-by-Step Guide

Adding a New Menu Section

1. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click Kitchen Hub.
2. Under the Menu group, click Menu Sections.
3. Click the + Add Section button.
4. Enter a name for the new section (e.g., "Appetizers" or "Specialty Drinks").
5. Click Save to create the section.

Adding an Item Within a Section

1. On the Menu Sections page, click the section you want to add an item to.
2. Click + Add Item within that section.
3. Fill in the item's details — name, description, price, and any applicable modifiers or tax categories.
4. Click Save to add the item to the section.

Editing an Existing Item

1. On the Menu Sections page, navigate to the section containing the item.
2. Click the item you want to update.
3. Modify the relevant fields (name, description, price, modifiers, availability, etc.).
4. Click Save to apply the changes.

Common Troubleshooting / FAQs

Q: I added a new item but it is not appearing on the POS. Menu changes take effect after the POS device syncs with Katalyst. Ask your staff to refresh or restart the POS app on the affected device. If the item still does not appear after a few minutes, confirm the change was saved by returning to Menu Sections and verifying the item is listed.

Q: I want to temporarily hide an item without deleting it. Open the item and toggle its status to Inactive or 86'd (depending on the option shown). Inactive items are removed from the guest-facing and POS ordering views but remain in your menu for easy reactivation.
