Importing Menu Items
Feature Overview
The Import Menu feature allows you to bulk-upload menu items from a CSV file, making it efficient to populate a new menu, update large numbers of items at once, or migrate menu data from another system into Katalyst. Rather than creating each item individually, you can prepare the full list in a spreadsheet and import it in one step.
Prerequisites / Requirements
- Your account must have Menu view or edit permissions and Vendors view or edit permissions.
- A CSV file prepared in the required Katalyst import format. Download a sample or template from the Import Menu page to ensure your file is structured correctly before importing.
- A Revenue Center must be active and selected.
Step-by-Step Guide
- In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click Kitchen Hub.
- Under the Other group, click Import Menu.
- Review the import format requirements shown on the page. If a sample template is available, download it to use as a starting point for your CSV file.
- Prepare your CSV file with all menu items, sections, prices, and any other required fields.
- On the Import Menu page, click Choose File and select your prepared CSV file from your device.

- Click Import to complete the process.
- Imported items will appear in your Menu Sections immediately after a successful import.
Common Troubleshooting / FAQs
Q: The import failed with an error message. Review the error details carefully — they will typically identify the row in your CSV file that caused the failure (e.g., a missing required field or an invalid price format). Correct the issue in your spreadsheet, re-save the file, and attempt the import again.
Q: Some items imported but others are missing. Check the import preview output for any rows that were skipped or flagged. Common causes include duplicate item names, unsupported characters in the item name field, or a price formatted as text rather than a number.
