Settings — Hours of Operation
Feature Overview
Hours of Operation is where you define when each Revenue Center is open — for dine-in day parts, reservations, and takeout & delivery orders. These hours are enforced throughout the system: the online reservation widget will only allow bookings during active reservation hours, and the online/diner ordering experience will only accept takeout orders within the configured window. Accurate hours are essential for both customer expectations and system-level availability controls.
How It Affects the System
- Day Part hours define when the kitchen and floor are actively serving guests. These are used for labor tracking and operational reporting.
- Reservation hours control the window during which online and dashboard-based reservations can be created. Bookings outside these hours are blocked for guests.
- Takeout & Delivery hours govern when the Katalyst online ordering and diner app accepts pickup or delivery orders. Orders placed outside these hours will be rejected.
- Exception days (holidays, special closures, or extended hours) override the regular weekly schedule for specific dates, allowing for precise control without changing your default settings permanently.
- Hours are configured per Revenue Center — if your restaurant has multiple Revenue Centers (e.g., a patio and main dining room), each can have its own independent schedule.
Prerequisites / Requirements
- Restaurant edit or view permissions are required.
- At least one Revenue Center must be configured before hours can be set.
Step-by-Step Guide
Accessing Hours of Operation
- Navigate to Settings > Hours of Operation.
- If your restaurant has multiple Revenue Centers, select the relevant one using the tab or selector at the top.
Setting Regular Weekly Hours
- The page displays a schedule for each day of the week.
- For each day, toggle the day on (open) or off (closed).
- When a day is toggled on, set the open time and close time for that day part.
- Repeat for each service type: Dine-In, Reservations, and Takeout & Delivery — each may have its own independent hours.
- Changes save automatically as you update each field.
Adding a Holiday or Exception
- Scroll to the Holidays & Exceptions section at the bottom of the page.
- Click + Add Exception (or the equivalent add button).
- Select the date for the exception.
- Set the exception type:
- Closed — marks that day as fully closed regardless of normal hours
- Custom hours — overrides the normal schedule with different open/close times for that specific date
- Click Save to add the exception.
Editing or Removing an Exception
- Locate the exception in the Holidays & Exceptions list.
- Click the edit icon to modify the date or hours.
- Click the delete icon to remove the exception — the day will revert to the standard weekly schedule.
Common Troubleshooting / FAQs
Q: I updated our hours but guests can still book reservations outside the new window. After saving, allow a few minutes for the booking widget to sync the new schedule. If bookings are still being accepted outside your hours, navigate back to Settings > Hours of Operation, confirm the correct Revenue Center is selected, and verify the reservation hours were saved correctly. If you use an embedded reservation widget on your website, you may also need to refresh the widget's cache by re-embedding the latest code from Settings > Reservations & Table Management.
Q: My restaurant is closed on a holiday but the system still shows it as open. You need to add a Holiday Exception for that specific date. Regular weekly hours do not account for one-off closures — they must be manually overridden in the Holidays & Exceptions section. Add the date as a Closed exception to block bookings and orders on that day.
