Settings — Cloud Point of Sale

Feature Overview

Cloud Point of Sale is the central hub for configuring everything about how your POS operates day-to-day. From basic auto-logout behavior to printer routing, order mode setup, and promotional discounts, this section contains all the controls that shape the experience your staff has at the register. It is organized into six focused sub-sections so you can quickly locate and update the specific area you need.

How It Affects the System

  • Changes made in any Cloud POS sub-section take effect on the POS the next time the relevant screen or function is used — some settings require a POS app restart to fully apply.
  • All POS behavior — how staff check out guests, how tickets print, which discounts are available, and how order modes are structured — is driven by what is configured here.

Prerequisites / Requirements

  • Restaurant edit or view permissions are required.

Sub-Sections Overview

Basic Settings

POS Auto Logout & other settings

Controls foundational POS behavior including:

  • Auto Logout — sets how long the POS waits before automatically logging out an idle user
  • Other general POS behavior options

How to access: Click Basic Settings from the Cloud Point of Sale menu.

Printer Configuration

Add new individual printers and printer groups

Maps menu items and ticket types to specific printers (kitchen printers, bar printers, expo printers, receipt printers).

How it affects the system: Printer assignments determine where each ticket or receipt prints when an order is submitted. Incorrect printer mapping will cause tickets to print at the wrong station or not print at all.

How to access: Click Printer Configuration from the Cloud Point of Sale menu.

To add a printer:

  1. Click + Add Printer.
  2. Enter the printer's name and IP address or connection details.
  3. Assign menu items or ticket categories to this printer.
  4. Click Save.

Order Modes & Cash Drawers

Add drawers & create new shared Order Modes

Order Modes define how an order is classified when opened on the POS — for example, Dine In, Take Out, Bar Tab, or Delivery. Each Order Mode can have its own behavior settings.

Cash Drawers are registered here and assigned to specific POS stations or Order Modes.

How it affects the system: The Order Modes available to staff on the POS are limited to what is configured here. Cash drawer assignments determine which drawer opens when a cash transaction is processed on a given station.

To add an Order Mode:

  1. Click + Add Order Mode.
  2. Enter the mode name and configure its behavior settings.
  3. Click Save.

To add a Cash Drawer:

  1. Click + Add Drawer.
  2. Enter the drawer's connection details and assign it to a station.
  3. Click Save.

Comps, Discounts & Surcharges

Create & edit comps, discounts, coupons, surcharges and more

This section manages all promotional and adjustment types available on the POS:

TypeDescription
CompFull or partial item/check comps (e.g., manager override, staff meal)
DiscountPercentage or fixed-amount discounts (e.g., 10% off, Happy Hour)
Promo CodeAlphanumeric codes guests or staff enter to apply a discount
BOGOBuy-one-get-one offers configured with specific item rules
SurchargeAdditional fees added to a check (e.g., large party fee, credit card surcharge)

How it affects the system: Only comps, discounts, and surcharges created here will appear as options for staff on the POS. Removing a comp type removes it immediately from the POS interface.

To create a new Comp or Discount:

  1. Click + Add next to the relevant type.
  2. Fill in the name, type (percentage or fixed), and any restrictions.
  3. Click Save.

Checkout

Tip presets and checkout messages

Controls the guest checkout experience on the POS:

  • Tip Presets — the percentage buttons displayed to guests when prompted for a tip (e.g., 18%, 20%, 22%)
  • Checkout Messages — custom text displayed to guests on the payment screen

How it affects the system: Tip percentages set here appear as quick-select buttons on the POS payment screen. Changing these values updates all POS terminals immediately.

Manage POS Licenses & Devices

Manage POS software licenses and devices

Displays all registered POS devices (tablets, terminals) associated with your account and their license status.

How it affects the system: A device must be registered and have an active license to run the Katalyst POS software. Devices showing an inactive or expired license will be blocked from processing transactions.

Common Troubleshooting / FAQs

Q: A menu item is printing to the wrong kitchen printer. Open Printer Configuration and verify the item's printer assignment. Each menu item or category must be explicitly mapped to a printer. If the item is unassigned, it may default to a catch-all printer or not print at all. Update the mapping and save.

Q: A comp or discount is not showing up on the POS. Confirm the comp or discount is active in Comps, Discounts & Surcharges. If it was recently created, the POS app may need to be refreshed to load the new option. Ask staff to pull down to refresh or restart the POS app on the affected device.
