Splitting a Check
Overview
The Split Check feature lets you divide one check into multiple separate checks so that guests can pay individually or in different groups. You can add new split checks, move items between them, and then process payment on each one independently.
Prerequisites
- A check must already be open with at least one item on it.
- You must have the appropriate staff permissions to split checks.
How to Open Split Check
- Open the check you want to split from the Home Screen or Check Composer.
- Tap the Actions or check options menu.
- Select Split Check.
The Split Check screen opens showing the original check as the first split.
Adding a New Split
- On the Split Check screen, tap Add Check at the bottom.
- A new empty check column appears next to the original.
- You can add as many splits as needed.
Moving Items Between Splits
- Tap an item in any split column to select it.
- Drag it to the destination split column, or tap the destination column to move the selected item there.
- Items move between splits — the totals on each check update automatically.
Completing the Split
- Once all items are in the correct splits, tap Done.
- The original check is replaced by the individual split checks.
- Each split check can now be paid separately from the Check Composer or Home Screen.
Canceling a Split
- Tap Cancel at any time to exit the Split Check screen without saving any changes. The original check remains unchanged.
Troubleshooting
Items are not moving between splits
Make sure you are dragging or tapping correctly on the item row. Only items that have been sent to the kitchen (ordered) may have restrictions on movement depending on your restaurant's settings.
The Add Check button is not responding
There is a maximum number of splits allowed per check. If the button appears disabled, the check has reached its split limit. Contact a manager if more splits are needed.
Split Check option is not available
This option may be restricted by your staff permissions. Ask a manager to verify your role has the correct access.
