Catering

Overview

The Catering module is a dedicated workflow within the Katalyst POS for managing large-scale catering orders. It supports customer account management, order composition, date and time selection for events, delivery or pickup details, and payment processing — all in one guided flow separate from normal table-service operations.

Prerequisites

  • The Catering Order Mode must be active on your restaurant account. This Order Mode is created for your restaurant automatically but starts inactive — a manager must activate it in back office before it becomes available.
  • You must be logged in to the POS and linked to the Catering Order Mode on the Drawers & Modes screen, or the catering flow must be launched via the appropriate POS menu path.

Getting to Catering

  1. The Catering module is accessible when linked to the Catering Order Mode.
  2. When you tap a catering-linked session or navigate to the catering area from the POS, the Catering interface opens.

Customer Management

The catering flow starts with a Customers view.

Finding an existing customer

  1. Use the search bar at the top of the Customers screen to search by name, phone, or email.
  2. Tap a customer card to open their Customer Profile.

Creating a new customer

  1. On the Customers screen, tap the New Customer or Add option.
  2. The Customer Profile Composition screen opens.
  3. Fill in the customer's details:
    • First and last name
    • Phone number
    • Email address
    • Delivery address (if applicable)
  4. Tap Save to create the customer account.

Activating or deactivating a customer

On the Customer Profile screen, tap the Deactivate Customer or Activate Customer button (visible in the upper-right corner) to change the customer's active status.

Creating a Catering Order

  1. From the Customer Profile, navigate to their Orders list.
  2. Tap Create Order (in the upper-right corner of the orders view).
  3. Select the event date from the calendar.
  4. Select the event time from the available time slots.
  5. Choose the fulfillment type (pickup, delivery, etc.).
  6. If delivery is selected, confirm or enter the delivery address.

Adding Items to a Catering Order

  1. Once the order is created, the Menu view opens.
  2. Browse categories and tap items to add them to the order.
  3. Each item can be configured with modifiers and quantities.
  4. The order totals update as items are added.

Reviewing and Submitting the Order

  1. When all items are added, review the order on the Order Check screen.
  2. Confirm quantities, pricing, and event details.
  3. Tap Create Order (or the submit button) to finalize and submit the order.

Payments for Catering Orders

  1. From the order detail view, navigate to the Order Items & Payment section.
  2. Tap the payment button to initiate payment.
  3. The standard POS payment methods are available (card, cash, gift card, loyalty, etc.).
  4. Partial deposits are supported — you can apply a partial payment and leave the balance open.

Troubleshooting

Catering Order Mode is not visible on the POS

The Catering Order Mode must be activated in back office under Settings → Cloud Point of Sale → Order Modes & Cash Drawers. Find the Catering row and check the Active checkbox. Staff may need to log out and back in after activation.

Can't find a customer in the catering system

Search by phone number or email in addition to name. If the customer is new, tap the option to create a new customer profile.

Date/time slots are not available for selection

Available time slots are controlled by your catering configuration in back office. If no slots appear for a date, that date may not have catering time slots set up yet. Contact a manager to configure catering availability.
