Cash Out
Overview
The Cash Out process is how a staff member closes out their shift. It walks you through a series of steps to confirm your checks, verify tips, review your financial totals, and get manager sign-off (if required). Completing a cash out produces an end-of-shift report that shows everything collected during the session.
Prerequisites
- You must be logged in to the POS and have at least one shift with activity to cash out.
- All open checks assigned to your session must either be closed or transferred before cashing out.
- Your role must have permission to initiate a cash out.
Opening the Cash Out
- Tap the Menu (≡) icon to open the side drawer.
- Tap Cash Out (or navigate to the cash out list from the Staff Settings area).
- Select your session or shift from the list.
- Tap Start Cash Out to begin.
Cash Out Steps
The cash out process moves through up to six steps shown at the top of the screen. You progress through them in order:
Step 1 — Review Checks
"Make sure all checks are assigned to the correct shift before beginning cash out."
- Review all checks attributed to your session.
- Confirm check amounts, order modes, and totals are correct.
- Tap Next to continue.
Step 2 — Adjust Tips
"Make sure all credit card tips have been updated before continuing cash out."
- Review all card payments and tip amounts.
- If a guest added a tip on a paper receipt after swiping, update the tip amount here.
- Tap Next when all tips are accurate.
Step 3 — Financials
- Review your full financial summary, including total sales, payments broken down by type (cash, card, gift card, etc.), and any adjustments.
- Confirm the amounts match your drawer and printed receipts.
- Tap Next to continue.
Step 4 — Comment Card (if enabled)
- Add any end-of-shift notes or comments for your manager.
- This step is only shown if your location has the Comment Card feature turned on.
Step 5 — Manager Approval (if required)
- A manager must review and approve your cash out using their PIN.
- Have a manager enter their PIN on the approval screen.
- This step is only shown if your location requires manager approval for cash outs.
Step 6 — Cash Out Status
- The final status screen confirms the cash out is complete.
- Your shift report is generated and can be printed.
Viewing Past Cash Outs
- Navigate to Cash Out from the side drawer.
- The list shows all past cash outs for your session, including their status (outstanding or completed).
- Tap any entry to view its details.
Troubleshooting
Can't start cash out — open checks are blocking it
All checks with unpaid balances or those not yet closed must be handled before starting a cash out. Close or transfer any open checks first.
Can't delete an Order Mode — "Can't delete Order Mode with un-cashouted checks"
This message appears when trying to delete an Order Mode that still has checks attached to an in-progress cash out. Complete the cash out first, then return to the Order Mode settings to delete it.
Tip adjustment is not saving during Adjust Tips step
Confirm the payment is in a paid status. Failed, voided, or loyalty card payments cannot have tips adjusted.
Manager approval screen is not appearing
Manager Approval is an optional step. If it is not configured for your location, this step does not display. If you believe it should be required, contact your account administrator.
