Drawers & Modes
Overview
The Drawers & Modes screen is where staff link to an Order Mode (such as Dine In, Bar, or Takeout) and connect to a Cash Drawer for their session. Once linked to an Order Mode, every check you open is automatically tagged with that mode, keeping your sales reports and cash out totals organized by service type.
For the full guide on managing Order Modes in the back office (creating, editing, activating, and deleting), see the Order Modes guide.
Prerequisites
- At least one active Order Mode must exist for your restaurant.
- You must be logged in to the POS.
Navigating to Drawers & Modes
- Tap the Menu (≡) icon to open the side drawer.
- Go to Settings → Settings & Configuration → Cash Drawers & Order Modes.
The Drawers & Modes screen displays two sections: Order Modes and Cash Drawers. Each row shows the mode or drawer name and a Link or Unlink button.
Linking to an Order Mode
- Find the Order Mode you want to work under.
- If the row shows a Link button (blue), tap it to link your current session to that Order Mode.
- The button changes to Unlink (yellow), confirming you are now linked.
All checks you open after linking will be automatically tagged with that Order Mode.
You can only be linked to one Order Mode at a time. If you are already linked to an Order Mode, unlink from it before linking to a different one.
Unlinking from an Order Mode
- Find the Order Mode you are currently linked to — it shows an Unlink button (yellow).
- Tap Unlink.
- The button changes back to Link, confirming you are no longer linked.
Unlinking does not affect checks that were already opened during the linked session. Those checks retain their original Order Mode tag.
Linking to a Cash Drawer
- In the Cash Drawers section of the screen, find the drawer you want to connect to.
- Tap Link next to the drawer name.
- The button changes to Unlink, confirming the connection.
The linked drawer will open automatically at the end of cash transactions, depending on your payment method settings.
Unlinking from a Cash Drawer
- Find the cash drawer you are linked to — it shows Unlink.
- Tap Unlink to disconnect.
Troubleshooting
The Order Mode I need is not in the list
Only active Order Modes appear on the Drawers & Modes screen. If a mode is missing, a manager must activate it in back office under Settings → Cloud Point of Sale → Order Modes & Cash Drawers. Staff may need to log out and back in after a mode is activated.
I can't unlink from an Order Mode
If the Unlink button is not responding or appears grayed out, check for any open checks still tagged to that mode. All checks must be closed, transferred, or cashed out before the link can be cleared.
Link and Unlink buttons are not appearing
Confirm you are looking at the correct section — Order Mode rows and Cash Drawer rows both use Link/Unlink buttons. If no buttons are visible at all, your role may not have permission to manage drawer or mode links. Contact a manager.
