Completing Items and Tickets
Feature Overview
The KDS gives kitchen staff full control over the lifecycle of every order. Individual menu items can be marked complete as they are finished, and entire tickets can be approved or completed in a single tap. Staff can also reopen items that were marked complete by mistake, start a prep timer for their station, and view the full detail of a single check on a focused screen. This real-time status tracking keeps the front-of-house team informed about what is ready and what is still in progress.
Prerequisites / Requirements
- The KDS app must be on the live ticket board for your prep station.
- Ticket completion settings (double confirmation, full-ticket completion) are configured by your manager in Restaurant Settings. Your screen may behave slightly differently depending on those settings.
Step-by-Step Guide
Marking an Individual Item Complete
- Locate the ticket containing the item you have finished preparing.
- Tap the menu item row for that specific item.
- If double confirmation is enabled at your location, a second tap on the same item is required to confirm. The item will visually change after the first tap to indicate it is pending confirmation.
- The item is marked complete and its appearance updates to reflect the new status.
Reopening a Completed Item
If an item was marked complete by mistake:
- Find the ticket (switch to the Completed tab if needed, or locate it while it is still on the active board).
- Tap the completed item again to reopen it and return it to an in-progress state.
Starting the Prep Timer for Your Station
When your station is ready to begin cooking an order, tap the START button on the ticket. This records the moment your station started working on that check and is visible to the expediting team.
Completing an Entire Ticket at Once
If your location has the full-ticket completion feature enabled:
- On the ticket, tap the action button that corresponds to the ticket's current status:
- Complete this ticket — marks the entire check as finished.
- Approve this ticket — approves a completed ticket for the expeditor.
- Unapprove this ticket — reverses an approval if needed.
- Incomplete this ticket — reopens a ticket that was completed or approved.
- A confirmation dialog appears: "Are you sure?" with the message "Confirm your choice."
- Tap Confirm to proceed, or Cancel to go back.
Viewing a Single Ticket in Detail
To see all items on one check without distraction from other tickets:
- Tap anywhere on the ticket header (the area showing the check number, table, and employee name).
- The Single Check screen opens, showing a full-screen view of that ticket with all items, modifiers, and status.
- All the same completion actions are available here — individual items and full-ticket buttons work the same way.
- Tap the back control in the header to return to the main ticket board.
Placing a Ticket On Hold
If a ticket needs to be paused — for example, waiting on an ingredient — it may show an On Hold indicator with a countdown timer. This status is set from the POS or management panel and is visible on the KDS as a read-only indicator.
Reprinting a Ticket
If a printed order ticket is needed:
- Locate the ticket you want to print.
- Use the print action available on the ticket (icon varies by configuration).
- The print job is sent to the configured kitchen printer immediately.
Common Troubleshooting / FAQs
I tapped an item but nothing happened. If double confirmation is enabled, the first tap marks the item as "pending." Tap the same item a second time to confirm completion. If the item still does not respond, check that the display is showing a blue (connected) status in the header.
I completed a ticket by mistake and need to reopen it. Switch to the Completed tab using the toggle in the header. Locate the ticket and tap Incomplete this ticket. This returns the ticket to an active state and it will reappear on the active board.
